The Brontë sisters wrote from a windswept parsonage in Haworth, on the edge of the Yorkshire moors. In 1846, Charlotte, Emily and Anne first published their work under the pseudonyms Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell, a necessary disguise at a time when women novelists were rarely taken seriously. Within a few years, Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights were among the most talked about novels in the country.

Our stock typically includes Wuthering Heights, a four-novel omnibus bringing together Jane Eyre, Villette, Wuthering Heights and Agnes Grey, and occasionally an early work such as Charlotte's The Green Dwarf. We also sometimes carry a first edition biography of Charlotte Brontë, Margaret Crompton's 1955 Passionate Search, for anyone who wants the life story behind the novels.
