The Historic Architecture of Scotland By John G. Dunbar 1966

A survey of Scotland's historic buildings organised thematically across castles and towers, lairds' houses, country mansions, abbeys and churches, burgh architecture, industrial architecture and rural houses, ranging from the early Celtic Church to the start of the Victorian era. A contemporary review in Scottish Studies called it "by far the best single-volume survey of Scottish architecture yet published", praising its lairds' houses chapter as particularly original. Author John G. Dunbar spent decades with the Royal Commission on the Ancient Monuments of Scotland, later serving as its Secretary, and went on to co-author the acclaimed "Buildings of Scotland: Borders" volume.
