Ruaraidh Hilleary (1926-2021) grew up on the Isle of Skye, served with the Scots Guards in the Second World War and later the Territorial SAS, campaigning to save the regiment from disbandment in the 1950s. His memoir recounts a strikingly varied working life, from selling cutlery in Zimbabwe and cashmere in Spain to running a fish farm and Skye's first commercial wind farm, alongside 45 years as honorary secretary of the Skye Gathering.
